The Geisha slot is a well renowned Aristocrat slot game for many reasons, some good, some not so. At one time there was an argument to say that this was one of the most popular slot games in Aristocrats range, it’s still right up there now in fact, though the graphics could benefit from a little remastering as IGT did with the Stinkin Rich slot for example. The downside of Geishas fame revolves around its original release as an app in the Apple iStore. It didn’t work very well as the software changed so frequently, and although now resolved and available on almost all devices, it’s a reminder of how hard the early days of online slot development really were!
When Geisha was originally conceived, the online game scene was just a myth and fantasy, no one really believed it would take off (How wrong they were!). As a result, Geisha didn’t have many of the native features that work so well built into it under its original design by developers forward thinking with the online casinos in mind. That hasn’t stopped it being an online success though, as is the case with many of the classic bricks and mortar casino slots such as Book of Ra.
Part of Geishas appeal, both live and online, is that despite its construction being that of a fairly simple 5x3 slot, it has a decent overall blend of style, gameplay and pay-outs. The animations might look a little cheesy by the standards on some modern slots, but at the time, they were revolutionary. The theme is risqué and fun, the bet sizing and pay-lines are adjustable and the variance sits strongly enough in the middle of the slots sphere to suit a wide variety of slots players. It’s also incredibly easy to setup and play, and is a familiar slot for many of the fruit machine players who are moving towards online play, it has the comfort of the familiar built in so to speak.
Like many physical casino games the base game play can be a little uninspiring, you do really need 4+5 of a kind symbol combinations on a pay-line to actually get a decent win versus your stake. The wild spices up the action by doubling up any win it completes, acting as a 2x multiplier as well as a fixed wild icon. Both the Wild and the Scatter symbol have x2-x800 instant win values and unlike the rest of the pay-table, there is a small pay-out for just two symbols in sequence. Thus explaining why it is worth getting all five scatters despite the fact the free games number 15 no matter whether you find 3, 4 or 5 scatter symbols on the reels.
Another venerable Aristocrat feature is the gamble game where you can bet on suit or colour to increase those small wins, or alternatively lose them completely! Overall Geisha still has enough in its repertoire to entertain and provide value against more visually appealing but lower paying slots in the modern era, such as the popular Guns N Roses slot by NetEnt – though the latter is decidedly more fun!
