The Lord Of The Rings free-play slot has been decommissioned. Microgaming have
replaced the game with 'The Dark Knight'. Check out the video below:
OCV's Original LOTR review
Microgaming's now retired LOTR slot game was based on the same model that drives the excellent
Thunderstruck II slot and uses the same 243-payline
layout (Multiway). It has a free spins bonus which as normal is triggered by 3 scatters in
view and, the most exciting part for me - it features stacked wilds! In fact it goes one
better than that and has an "Eye of Sauron" smbol on Reel 3 that also acts as an exanding
wild. Joy! It's described as a medium variance slot with an expected payout (RTP) in the
96-97% payout range. It joins the excellent
Gladiator slot in that it is themed on a feature film and
contains video footage interspersed with the game play. LOTR has been a while in the making:
I first saw a teaser video of the prototype back in January, but the deal with Warner
Bros Digital Distribution (who act as go-between with New Line Media, the rights holders) meant
the LOTR slot was always going to mean a protracted process of authorisation and licensing. The slot
features film footage, sounds and graphic portrayals of the main characters along with stacked wilds
and a free spins bonus. You can see more information on
The Lord Of The Rings Slots dedicated microsite.
It's not the first LOTR-themed slot machine in fact. Check out the video of the Lord Of
The Rings slot from WMS (below), a land-based slot machine that launched in late 2009 and bears
similarities to their very cool Star Trek slot machines I've seen in Las Vegas. This version
has "unlockable" bonuses - coincidentally, Microgaming's Thunderstruck 2 slot also uses this
concept - and PowerSpin™ bonuses. For the record the bonus rounds are:
Gandalf’s Fireworks, Garden Heist, The Prancing Pony, Arwen’s Rescue, Isildur’s Sword,
The Balrog™, Galadriel's Stairway and the Uruk-hai Battle Bonus!
Like the Star Trek slot game, WMS's Lord Of The Rings has it's own chair you sit in with speakers
in the headrests, but don't expect that in Microgamng's version though - being an online-only slot
game, that would be quite a feat of engineering to say the least! As it happens WMS have announced
that their Lord Of The Rings slots won't ever appear online as the licence was granted exclusively
to Microgaming so, even though many WMS slots can now be played online at
Jackpot Party casino, LOTR won't be one of them.
Anyway, below is a list of safe and popular online casinos that use Microgaming software and
will have the Lord Of The Rings slot as soon as it comes out. Check out the homepage of Online
Casinos Vegas for more Vegas games.
