WMS have been pretty quick in getting their latest land-based slots into online casinos in recent
months and the excellent Montezuma slot is no exception. Released at the same time as one of my all-time
favorite games, the Raging Rhino slot, Montezuma is a very unique game.
Like many WMS slots, winning anything decent from the base game is hard: in fact, only stacked Montezuma
symbols across 4 or 5 reels will get you excited and as usual, the Montezuma slot is all about the feature -
and a very unique one it is too. WMS are renowned for being different as witnessed by games like the
volatile Bruce Lee slot and the Zeus 3 game both of
which have unusual reel layouts.
In the case of the Montezuma game, the reels are a standard 5x4. It has a free spin feature triggered
by 3 or more scatters anywehere in view with up to 25 free spins on offer at 2x-10x. The multiplier
is randomly applied on each spin. This is where the unique aspect comes in: if you get 2 or more scatters
during the free spins, the multiplier sticks in position and you get another 5-25 free spins on that multiplier.
And this can go on ad-infinitum. You'll see some wicked videos on Youtube of multiple-repeat features.
What I would add however is that unless you get a 6-10x multiplier, the wins are rarely anything to write home
about by themselves but a good feature with lots of repeats and that changes. I have had some great hits on this
game myself - you just need to be patient but isn't that the same with most games?
The ease with which the re-triggers occur reminds me a lot of Novomatic slots,
in particular Lucky Lady's Charm and Book Of Ra where it is hard to get the
feature (and you don't get much from the base game either!) but when you do and it starts to
re-trigger, the fun starts!
There are a lot more volatile games in the free slots selection on OCV but Montezuma
falls into the medium-high territory and deserves some respect if you want to manage your bankroll effectively.
Without the feature, you'll invariably find the money running down faster that you would like.
