WMS are no different than the other big manufacturers in that they like to extract the maximum value from a popular theme. Zeus 1000 is essentially a colossal reel game in the same format as Spartacus and the Kiss slot. It differs mainly in its use of the popular WMS Zeus theme and imagery taken from slots like Zeus 3 and the original Zeus game. It’s just as entertaining as the existing colossal games and offers a slightly different entertainment factor to fans of these big reel slots.
The variance is still firmly in the medium-high region though, of course, as a land based slot the casinos have the ability to adjust that which is why it can feel tighter or looser at various different places. Online it seems pretty fixed across the board and most sites list the game with a very generous RTP of 96% whether in free play or cash spin mode. For some reason this is 0.04% different to the other games, I’m guessing they rounded the numbers up here rather than this being an actual different random number generator powering the game.
Much like the aforementioned slots, Zeus 1000, whilst very entertaining to play, can get a little streaky. With so many pay-lines on the go, it isn’t hard to hit wins, but what would be a big combination on a traditional 5x3 reel game often offers little reward on these multiple reel games. The reason for this is the overall bet per line, minimum bet is just 0.50 credits for all lines, which essentially makes it a penny a line slot. That isn’t to say you can’t hit some big multipliers, you certainly can, but your bet size does need to be larger than usual for the wins to feel substantial.
Aside from the theme the biggest difference Zeus has is in the spins bonus round and it’s mechanics. The base game play is largely the same as the other titles with stacked wilds transferring from the main 5x3 game to the side 5x12 colossal reel set. The spins number on the other hand, is different, with 10-30 available for 3-6 scatters. The larger number of scatters is not confined to adding extra spins either, they come with an increasing multiplier, the max being x25. The minimum offered on the base 10 free spin award is a multiplier of just x2. This means that even with re-triggers a low initial spins number is generally far less valuable than a higher one.
The game name refers to the Zeus stacked symbols allocation, in the free spins game any Zeus symbol appearing stacked on reel one adds up to 1000x high paying Zeus icons to the reels. This seems a huge amount and it does invariably lead to big combinations however, as I touched on earlier, your bet per line will largely determine how rewarding that is from a cash perspective.
Overall Zeus 1000 is an excellent slot, the other colossal reel games were massively popular and this new title seems to have followed on from that. Careful bankroll management is required but it’s hard to think of another slot which offers both a high variance level and decent entertainment value in the way that these games do. Big branded titles like the Hitman slot from Microgaming take a good stab at it, but with the license expense the RTP often suffers.
